It’s not only the children who are undervalued and in hopeless situations—in many places, the women are, too. Last year, GlobalFingerprints reached out to care for moms and caregivers in the community. Here are a few of those stories.
Christmas surprise
As part of their largest Christmas outreach, Central India created a special gospel invite. The children each took an invitation to their mothers, along with the gift of a shawl. The mothers were deeply moved by receiving a gift from—and being shown value by—their own child. In return, the children were empowered by seeing the difference they could make in the lives of their own mothers by giving.
From new ideas to new hearts
In our suburban Manila site, Dolly*, the program manager, started a Mom’s class by hosting a baby shower, an unfamiliar concept here. Then they started meeting for parenting classes and Bible studies and now are learning to make clothing to sell to help their families. Monique*, a single mom, has been attending these meetings. After hearing about Jesus, she came to Dolly and said she wanted to become a Christian. Since then, she has attended church and has a Bible study with Dolly. Monique is learning to forgive as she has been forgiven, even forgiving her husband and his girlfriend who is also in the Mom’s class. God is a God of transformation and is using the local church to reach the women of their community.
Full circle
When the GlobalFingerprints program started in Central Manila, they met Angel* and her daughter Jasmine*. After Jasmine had been in the program for two months, Angel saw so many changes in her daughter that she said to the care workers, “Can you teach me what you’re teaching my daughter?” Angel wasn’t a believer then, but after going through the discipleship program, God opened Angel’s heart to follow Christ. Not only did she make that decision, Angel went to the care worker training and is now a tutor.
